Walleye Derby – More Massive Walleyes

"TurtleRiverWalleyeGuy" - 30" Walleye - Canada

The hogs just keep piling up as we enter the summer months of the walleye fishing season. I have to confess… when I started this I wasn’t sure if we could fairly compare the typical “big” walleyes from this part of the country to some of the giants that get pulled out of the Great Lakes on a regular basis. But after a little over a month of fishing I have observed some pretty amazing fish up close and personal and through submitted photos. There are some nice walleyes to be found in many lakes if you are willing to put in some time hunting for them.

This week we have a new competitor… “TurtleRiverWalleyeGuy” … who fishes some of the very same waters that I detail on this blog. His 30 inch walleye in the photo above was pulled out of Canadian waters and the 26.5 inch walleye was pulled from a Bemidji area lake. Nice work, and welcome to the Derby.

“Hang Loose” continues to grind out big fish with persistence and patience. He’s putting in his time in some of the ugliest conditions Northern Minnesota can dish out and is reaping the rewards. The 29.5 inch beast in the photo below was caught in the wind and rain pulling a 7 foot lindy rig with a crawler and single chartreuse bead in 15 feet of water on mid lake structure. Awesome fish.

  1. We don’t catch walleyes here in Florida but I enjoy seeing the pictures and reading the stories.

Thanks Michael… These guys put in a bunch of time on the water chasing walleyes. What’s the most popular fish down there in Florida?
