The Infamous Walleye Tackle Collection
Look at this pile of stuff. And it’s not even scratching the surface! Jigs, crankbaits, rods, slip bobbers, the works. I don’t even want to know what I’ve spent on this stuff, because it’s irrelevant. We use all of it at one time or another. The real curse is that we continue to plot ways to add new stuff to the pile. Take our latest quest for example…
As I mentioned in an earlier post, we will be fishing Little Bay de Noc at the end of the summer, and there’s no way we’re heading out to that fishery without planer board rigs. So, thanks to a bit of advice from my friends over at Walleye Central I’ve started putting together the pieces. A couple of Shakespeare rods, a couple of Daiwa line counter reels and I have my eye on a 4 pack of Offshore Tackle planer boards. I’ll be looking for two more rigs over the course of the summer. I’m already thinking about lakes where we can test this stuff out.
All of this got me thinking about all of our equipment and the things we need to do to keep it in working shape over the off-season. Then I ran across another article over on Earth Sports called Winter Tackle Maintenance that takes a little different twist by enumerating the things that we should NOT do with respect to our gear. Take a look if you get a chance. In the meantime, I have to get back to sorting through my stuff. I have to make room for a bit more gear.

Haha, we’re all kids in a candy store when it comes to our fishing gear!
There is no doubt that the gear can get costly and in our eyes we need it. Tell that to our wives! It is amazing at how quickly it adds up with a crankbaits here and there with thinking like I need more than one of that color, what if it is the hot one and I lose it, better get three. Oh I like that color too, etc. I could go on and on when I walk into stores like Cabela’s and Bass Pro.
Lucky for me, my wife loves to fish!
